The Sacrifice of Isaac, anonymous, Pieter Coecke van Aelst (I) (rejected attribution), c. 1540 - c. 1550 Canvas Print

On an uneven bottom, Abraham stands to the left, with his legs spread and his right arm raised, behind Isaac, who sits with his back to him, arms crossed, and crouched on the ground with a knee, and whose blindfolded head he presses down with his left hand. To the left of Isaac is the altar, on which a fire burns and for which lies a lamb with bound legs. Between Abraham's spread feet a branch forest; on his raised right wrist the fingers of the lost angel. Abraham wears tight-fitting trousers under a tunic with sleeves knotted, the legs of which reach briefly below the knees; in addition, a mantle hanging from the right shoulder, suspended by a strap around the waist, and a hat; Izaäk a shirt suspended around the waist, which is closed on one side with a button but has slipped off the shoulders.
