Title print with allegories on love for poetry and art and science, Rodolphe Bresdin, 1861 Canvas Print

Title print for first edition of literary magazine Revue Fantaisiste with an allegory of the subjects that were central to the edition. At the top, Venus is enthroned with Amor as the personification of Love next to an open book in which a text refers to the love for science and the arts. Venus is represented as an apparition in the sky and is flanked by two earthly knights. Below it is a monument in the middle with the title of the edition surrounded by three women and a man. The standing woman on the right is possibly Minerva. She blows on a horn and next to her sits an owl. The shield with Medusa's head is considered her attribute. On a sheet is the text Poesie which refers to poetry. On the left is a woman with a pointed hat, possibly a sorceress or witch. To the left of the monument sits a woman without an attribute.
