Triumphal arch with weapons Seventeen Provinces and women, anonymous, Claes Jansz. Visscher (II), 1634 Canvas Print
In the middle a triumphal arch with the title of the atlas, flanked by two women. The woman on the right holds a broom and a sign with 'ratio' in her hands and the woman on the left has a palm branch and an olive branch. The arch is decorated with the coats of arms of The Seventeen Provinces. On the bow sits a richly dressed woman on a lion. She is surrounded by attributes that represent the prosperity of the provinces, such as the mercury staff, a boat and the armillary on her lap. Right next to her is Mercury and to the left behind her Neptune is holding a boat. The trio is flanked by a personification of the invention of printing, left, and a personification of the discovery of the compass, on the right. In the foreground are a poor man and woman and two noble couples.
