Allegory of man's way of salvation. Life as a city with three walled grounds, with a temple in the middle. At the outer gate, the souls of children are waiting, ready to enter adult life. Before entering, they are given a drink of Temptation (Seductio), which makes them ignorant. The first walled terrain shows all kinds of distortions and distractions, such as Prejudice (Opinio), Desire (Cupiduas), Doubt (Error) and Ignorance (Ignorantia). They prevent young people from continuing to penetrate the next circle. Only by following the personifications of Repentance (Poenitentia), Hope (Spes) and Good Desire (Bonnem Desiderium) can man gain access to the second circle. There he is taught in all forms of worldly knowledge. On the left are the seven artes liberals and the right debate different scholars. Man is tested in this circle and confronted with false knowledge (Falsa Disciplina). With the help of Self-Control (Continentia) and Patientness (Tolerantia) the mountain can be climbed further. The third walled terrain, finally, is guarded by Truth (Veritas). It gives man access to true happiness. He is welcomed there by the cardinal virtues and may dwell in the house of the blessed, where true happiness awaits him. Reconstructed from two fragments.
