Mendes da Costa turned the playwright Heijermans into a portrait bust that, placed in the Vondelpark, was unveiled by alderman Wibaut on 22 November 1929. After that, the statue was destroyed to such an extent that it had to be replaced. The new version of the statue was placed in the Leidsebosje. In the first years of the occupation it was badly damaged again, after which the municipality had the statue stored. A student of Mendes da Costa, Frank de Miranda was commissioned to restore the statue. That does not work and the Miranda asked if he could keep the statue and took it with him when he left for Israel (1948-1953). After his return, Hildo Krop made a (failed) attempt to restore the statue. In the end, the stonemason's firm Van Tetterode succeeded in restoring the statue and on 1 June 1964 (the 100th anniversary of Heijermans) Krop unveiled the statue. Perhaps this photo was taken on the site of the Van Tetterode stonemasonry on the Middenweg in the Watergraafsmeer.
