View of Saint Helena, Jan Brandes, 1787 Canvas Print
Brandes made a sketch of Saint Helena, which he later worked out, when he was anchored there with his ship the Seahorse. In the foreground you can see the two other Dutch ships that belong to the squadron: on the left the Scheldt and on the right the Diamond. In between is a boat of the Seahorse, probably sailing towards land to stock up on fresh water. On the right are three English ships and behind them a Swedish ship. Three ammunition stores are displayed in the landscape: on the left Half Moon Battery, behind the chubbs battery barge and to the right of the second Dutch ship Mundens Battery, located on the rock Ruperts Hill. To the right of this rock you can see the castle with its red roof and behind it the church tower of the St James church.
