View of the Derde Heiligewegspoort in Amsterdam, Reinier Nooms, c. 1654 - 1701 Canvas Print
View of the Derde Heiligewegspoort and the accompanying bridge at the end of the Heiligewegburgwal in Amsterdam, seen from outside the city. On the right, wax is bleached. On the bank and on the bridge several figures. This city gate, designed by Jacob van Campen, was built between 1636 and 1638 to replace the wooden Tweede Heiligewegspoort. After the Fourth Explanation and the construction of the Leidsepoort (1664), this building had lost its function as a city gate, that same year it was demolished. Part of a print series of Amsterdam city gates.
