War and Peace, Petrus Clouwet, 1692 Canvas Print
In the middle of the print a cartouche with a coat of arms, with the title of the work underneath. Next to the cartouche the goddess Minerva (right) and the goddess Pax (left). Above the two goddesses fly two angels who each wear a medallion. Above Pax hangs the medallion of the Pax Augusta (an ancient term for long-term peace). Above Minerva hangs the medallion with Mars Ultor (the avenging war). Among the two goddesses are objects that are characteristic of their state: peace goes hand in hand with music (instruments) and knowledge (the caduceus, the globe, the compass), while under war there are weapons, flags and armor.
