Wine glass with a description of the alliance between the Batavian Republic and the French Republic , anonymous, c. 1795 Canvas Print
Conical foot. Smooth, widening trunk, passing into a curved chalice. On the chalice an allegory on the Alliance between the Batavian and the French Republic, closed on May 16, 1795. In a landscape with trees sits the Dutch Virgin with lance and freedom hat. She hands a palm branch to an elegantly dressed young man, symbolizing the French Republic. Behind the Virgin the head of the Batavian lion is visible, behind the young man the Gallic rooster walks with a laurel wreath in the beak. Between them in a bundle of fasces, to the right of the Virgin stands a garden vase on a pedestal. Above the performance the All-Seeing Eye of God with a halo.
