Porcelain bowl with slightly flared wall and bevel, painted in underglaze blue. On the outside of the bowl a continuous representation of scholars in a landscape with water, trees and rocks; a scholar plays on a qin surrounded by onlookers, two watch a crane, three sit around a scholar with a book, four watch a scholar with a brush and a servant next to him, two walk across a bridge; on the bottom a pattern with a bonsai tree in a star-shaped field; on the inner edge napkin work interspersed with lobed cartouches with peach branches; on the outer edge a geometric pattern with a ruyi motif, interspersed with lobed cartouches with flower sprays. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Kangxi in a double circle. Two chips in the rim. Old label on the bottom with: AJ Spijer & Zoon / Antiquaires / Amsterdam. Blue White.
