Breech-Loading Rifle, System Beaumont, De Beaumont, c. 1870 Canvas Print
Rear loading rifle with trailed barrel. It has a central fire mechanism of the Beaumont type. The chamber is opened with a latch button and the capstone slides backwards, so that the firing pin is also stretched. One can then load the cartridge and slide the capstone back, so that the pattern is pushed into the barrel. The rifle is equipped with a visor. The discharge stick is missing. The rifle features a saber bayonet in iron sheath. The massive bronze grip of the bayonet has a slot with a cut, with which it fits on a ridge on the barrel; he has a pareers' rod, bent on one side with a knob, on the other in the form of a ring, because there it comes right in front of the barrel; the blade has a flat back, a slit and is curved with the cut inwards. The scabbard must be removed before firing the gun, because it blocks the barrel.
