Cartoon on C. Seyn, anonymous, 1817 - 1896 Canvas Print
On October 10, 1838, it was discovered that the Leiden clerk C. Seyn had robbed the city coffers for a large amount for his love for paintings and curiosities. His fellow clerk J.C. Backer had done the same and bought books and snuff boxes for it. In the middle of the bottom is Seyn with books and paintings under his arm and antiques and money around him. On the left a Backer who takes money out of an oven. On the right a Peacock at a hill with dome, referring to the architect Van der Pauw who was overly pleased with a park he designed near Leiden. Completely above Lady Justice surrounded by the people.
