Cartoon on the treaty of Fontainebleau that ended the Keteloorlog, the disputes between the Netherlands and the Austrian emperor Joseph II, 8 November 1785. The Netherlands paid 8.5 million guilders and accepted other humiliating conditions. On the left an Austrian toll tree with an open carriage, mean by a French officer, in which a Prussian officer sits; the officer is arrested by the Austrian official for payment of a barrier, but the two Dutch lackeys (members of the Dutch States), who stand on the back of the carriage, say: 'We pay my Lord!' on which the Prussian can continue his journey.
