Cartoon on the Spaniards after the defeat in the battle of Duins, 21 October 1639. Sheet on which three plates are printed. Centrally the Spaniard (Den Spaenschen Singioor), on the left the Frenchman (Den Franschen Monsieur) and on the right the Dutchman (Den Hollandtschen Matroos). Behind the Spaniard the conquest of San Salvador at the All Saints' Bay in Brazil on the Spaniards by Admiral Jacob Willekes for the WIC, May 10, 1624. In the air an owl attacked by other birds. Behind the Frenchman the defeat of the Spaniards against the French in the county of Roussillon (1640?). Behind the Dutch the sea battle at Duins. Two verses are printed under each plate, a French verse of 6 lines and a Dutch verse of 16 lines.
