Chest, Koami-werkplaats (attributed to), c. 1635 - c. 1645 Canvas Print
Large box with a flat lid, on all sides with rich decorations in lacquerwork. On the front and the short sides, figures are depicted in a landscape, the lid contains a similar representation encased in a large cartouche; on the reverse, two blossom branches are displayed against a black background. We have always worked in maki-e technique, gold powder strewn in the wet lacquer in different colors and in a varying degree of fineness; some inlays in mother-of-pearl have been added to this. The representations on the lid and on the sides are always framed with wide decorative bands. The batter on the plinth and the lid, the handles and the lock plate are made of goatseed copper. The coffin stands on a low, European carved and gilded base that probably dates from the 19th century (AK-RAK-2013-3-2).
