Europe is personified by the mayor of Amsterdam Joan Huydecoper (1599-1661), wearing a feathered hat, standing in front of his country house Goudesteijn, in a landscape with cows and swans. His left hand rests on an oval shield with his coat of arms, and he stands on a plinth inscribed EUROPA. In the background on the right a carriage, drawn by horses. Asia is personified by a man wearing a turban and a staff in his right hand. It stands on a plinth with the inscription ASIA in a landscape with trees, a monkey and a dromedary. Africa is personified by a man in animal skin, seen from behind, in a landscape with palm trees, an elephant, a reclining camel, a walking bird and mountains. In his right hand he holds an arrow, in his left a bow, on his back hangs a quiver. It stands on a plinth with the inscription AFRICA. America is personified by a man wearing a feathered headdress, a quiver on his back, a bow and arrow in the left hand and a parrot in the right hand. It stands on a plinth with the inscription AMERICA on the bank of a river in a landscape with trees, a monkey, a fox and two dogs (?). On the river a man in a rowboat, on the other side of the river two men are busy with a roasting spit. The four scenes are separated from each other by columns, which are connected by volutes. On the capitals of the columns, starting with the column on the left of Europa, are a peacock, a monkey, a pelican and a parrot. Below the scenes a continuous band with the inscription: THIS ARE FOUR PARTS RYCK VAN SCHATTEN VOLCK AND STEDE: HAER HEIL EXISTS IN REST THE AARDTRIJCK FLOWERS THROUGH PEACE 1660.
