Dead and Cupid shoot each other's arrows and old man courtes young woman, Boëtius Adamsz. Bolswert, 1595 - 1633 Canvas Print
Death and Cupid have unwittingly traded their arrows. An old man holds the hand of a young woman, they sit at an open grave. Behind them, Death points his arrows of love at them. A monkey with glasses robs the man's purse. Cupid uses the deadly arrows of Death. A young man playing on his lute has been hit in the chest by an arrow. On a grave, a candle is almost burned out. A Latin verse and the Dutch translation declare that Death and Cupid have exchanged their arrows with the necessary consequences.
