Depiction of the proverb 'Reflect before you begin', anonymous, 1618 Canvas Print
Moralistic performance that is sometimes interpreted as a cartoon on the Arminians in 1618. The inscription in the middle 'Versint eer ghy beghint' better indicates the subject of the performance. Despite the warnings of an old man, a young man dives into the wide opening of a large horn. Then, however, it gets stuck in the narrow end. On the right, a smiling jester looks out the window and expresses the morality of the print, the proverb 'Think before you begin' or 'He works himself into a corner'. See also the interpretation of the 'horn creeper'. With seven verses in the performance.
