Drawing by living model, Jean Jacques Flipart, 1763 Canvas Print
Posing lady, sitting on a chair on an elevation, presenting 'La Douceur', the theme of the Concours pour le prix de l'Etude des têtes et de l'expression of the Académie Royale in 1761. Four participants in the 1761 competition draw the portrait of the posing lady. On the right is the jury: the painter Vassé (left), the Comte de Caylus (centre) and Jean Restout, director of the Academy (right). On the wall are paintings on top of each other. The aim of this annual competition, established in 1759, was to stimulate the drawing of human emotions as part of the drawing programme. The participants had to paint, draw or model a life-size head in relief, based on the model chosen by the Academy.
