Drinking cup, Johannes Lutma (1584-1669), 1641 Canvas Print

The cartouche-shaped shell is driven from one piece of silver. It's decorated with soft, blended ornaments. In the deepened soil, reminiscent of the inside of a human skull, an open muzzle is depicted. The flat upper edge widens from one short side to another in a wave motion. On one short side is a high-raised, turtle-like animal crawling out of fleshy skin. With its head, the animal bends over the edge of the shell bottom, as if to drink from the contents of the shell. The animal acts as the handle of the shell.
