Ebony writing box, inlaid with ivory, anonymous, c. 1720 - c. 1730 Canvas Print
Rectangular box with flat lid, standing on four small bulb legs. On the inside, along the back and sides two pen trays and two layers with 9 shallow leaves. The entire box is richly decorated with inlays of flower vines in ivory. On the lid, the tendrils spread over the surface from four European vases in the corners and from two different vases halfway up the long side, releasing an oval medallion in the center. On the sides, the inside of the lid and in the interior with the leaves, these tendrils come back. On the outside of the lid there is a rosette at the center of the oval. On the inside of the lid inside a rectangle a family coat of arms (probably filled in later). The bottom and part of the inside is inlaid with turtle. All sides and inside and outside of the lid are enclosed by narrow bands with tendril work.
