Figurje of an ox, Ryûryûkyo Shinsai, 1817 Canvas Print
A figurine in black stone of a reclining ox (nadeushi) on a pile of pillows on two boxes. On the ground are large and small silver coins; the large coins indicate the long months of the new year of the ox, the small coins the short months. Merchants often had a figure of an ox as a talisman. By stroking it daily, they hoped for fulfillment of their wishes. When this actually happened, an extra pillow was placed under the figure. With four poems.
