The Gerbrandy government decided that the first national liberation party would be held on the birthday of Queen Wilhelmina On 31 August 1945, a large theatrical manifestation was organized in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. In memory of those who fell, Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard laid a wreath at the memorial cross under the watchful eye of the public.
