The Gerbrandy government decided that the first national liberation party would be held on the birthday of Queen Wilhelmina. On August 31, 1945, a large theatrical event was organized in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. Under the artistic direction of Carel Briels and with texts by A. den Doolaard, the 'drama of occupation' was performed. On the lawn of the stadium the map of the Netherlands was plotted and there one saw successively the different stages of war, occupation and liberation.
