Flint belt gun, Lambertus Michaelis Thone, c. 1780 Canvas Print

Flint belt gun, Lambertus Michaelis Thone, c. 1780 Canvas Print

This belt gun is probably a unique specimen: there are few small weapons known with the monogram of the VOC. The lock is the same as NG-2002-23-173; the lock plate bears a signature and is stamped on the inside with JD. The barrel is equipped with three incised bands and a yellow-headed visor grain; stamped on the back with the VOC monogram and at the bottom with HI or IH. The stock is simply cut. The previously gilded yellow-copper fitting consists of, among other things, two cylindrical loading stick sleeves and a rounded trigger bracket; the belt hook is filed; the charging stick is made of steel.
