Flower Arranging, Ryûryûkyo Shinsai, c. 1800 - c. 1805 Canvas Print
Children playing and two flower arranging women in a room adjacent to a garden with flowering chrysanthemums. A third woman hangs a sign that says 'Hokusôan'. Top left and upside down under the entire performance, poems by different poets. This surimono was probably issued on the occasion of the appointment of the poet Hokusôan as jurilid in the poets' company, or because of changing his name. The surimono is folded horizontally over the middle, making the poems the back of the performance.
