Funeral Shield of the Cobblers’ Guild in Amsterdam, Johannes Grill, 1643 Canvas Print
The cartouche-shaped plate contains a shield with three attributes of the shoemaker's guild on it: in the middle a shoe above the year 1643; on the left of it a pruning knife (intended for cropping the sole leather) and on the right side an alder (awl). Above this first shield is a smaller shield with the crowned coat of arms of Amsterdam held by two lions. From the lion's tails to the bottom runs a wide edge composed of soft tissue, in which a cherub is included at the bottom. The execution of the cherub differs on the two shields among themselves.
