Garden vase, part of a pair, square. Massive, only at the top spherical hollowed out. The vase bears a relief decoration on the four sides. On two adjacent sides a tiger amidst bamboos, on the two other adjacent sides a dragon amidst clouds. Both performances are interrupted by the round grooves that are arranged in the raised edges. Note: vase B different from decoration. Note: from the collection mr R.H. Erdman, estate Terra Nova in Loenen a/d Vecht. Formerly from the Chinese-style country houses built by Reinhard van Scherenberg in Baarn, called Peking (1791) and Canton (1793). The building materials and garden decorations were imported directly from China. The villas were demolished in 1890-1891 and 1910 respectively. When the vases came into the hands of Erdmann and from which of the two villas they came, it could not be ascertained.
