Greyhound, Artus Quellinus (I), 1657 Canvas Print

Greyhound, Artus Quellinus (I), 1657 Canvas Print

This statue is a life-size, vividly carved greyhound with collar, on which the coat of arms of the Antwerp Roose family is cut. The statue bears the monogram A.Q. of Artus Quellinus and the year 1657. The image is an extremely rare example of a sculpted full-size animal portrait. The presence of the Roose coat of arms, the monogram of Quellinus and the year clearly indicate that it was made as an autonomous work. This is confirmed by the lack of any trace of old confirmation.
