Half Model of a Floating Battery, Rijkswerf Vlissingen, 1867 Canvas Print
Polychromed stacking model (starboard) of a floating battery, grey bottom and black above the waterline. The hull is that of an 84-piece line ship, the lower part sawn off and provided with a flat bottom, the upper decks removed and replaced by an armored superstructure with receding front and rear bulkhead: this superstructure has a high front and rear with sloping roofs inwards. Three gun gates in the side and two rows of one and a half gun gates in the front and rear bulkheads (the battery had six pieces in front and six at the back). In the opposite interiors of the upper sections, four shooting holes were installed on each side: the snipers had to shoot diagonally out of it. Behind a rudder.
