Harmonillus turns into a lemon tree, Cornelis Bloemaert (II), 1640 - 1646 Canvas Print
The young Harmonillus is thrown out of Apollo's singing school by his singing teacher Vafronia Rabiria. He cries and Cleomedes his former teacher tries to help him. But fed by the water of his tears, Harmonillus turns into a lemon tree. His legs become roots and lemons grow from his fingers. This print is an illustration for the introduction to G.B. Ferrari's book on citrus fruits. Through self-invented mythological stories, the author tries to explain the origin of the different lemon species.
