Jar with lid with six enamelled shields, G.H. Lantman, 1911 Canvas Print
The round object consists of a goblet, which is knocked out of one tombak plate with the bottom in the base, and a lid. Under the foot bottom, a profiled raised edge is mounted with two bolts from tombak. Six enamelled silver shields are soldered onto jar and lid. The jar is signed at the bottom in the foot. G. H. LANTMAN / ME / FECIT / 1911. On the inside of the lid the label with the printed text 'pour l'exposition a paris 1925 section néerlandaise' and in ink 'VIII 489'. The goblet is made up of a foot, a trunk and a tub, which merge into each other. The transition from the trunk to the tub has a driven stylized ornament, which is formed by a twelve times repeated motif, with at the top a three-articulated leaf. On the wall of the tub, six silver shields are soldered with a cloisonné-technique vegetative decoration in enamel, consisting of a calyx placed on stems and two buds as well as two leaves against a white, blue or reddish-brown background. The silver shields, which are round from above and pointed downwards, are set in a driven and punched décor, consisting of curls, leaves and six rosettes, in which a coral is incorporated. This relief decoration is closed at the top by a ribbed and hollow-round profiled edge. The lid is equipped with a button, which in shape and ornament is somewhat reminiscent of a corn cob. It is enclosed at the bottom by six leaves, which are of the same shape as those of the trunk. On the convex part of the lid, six round silver shields are soldered with an enamelled decoration executed in cloisonné technique consisting of rosettes in blue, green and reddish brown and with a ruby red semi-finished stone in the center. The shields are surrounded by a driven and punched décor, which is made up of a stylization of curls.
