Knottekist in gilded silver. Walls and lid openwork with flower and leaf work., Roeloff Pietersz. van Vriese (attributed to), 1820 Canvas Print
The rectangular box has a rolled, hinged lid and rests on four baluster-shaped legs. Profiled edges run along the bottom and top of the box, and along the underside of the lid. The walls and lid are worked open and then embossed with a decoration of flowers and leaves. Two dancing putti are incorporated on the lid. On their shoulders they carry a branch on which a bunch of grapes hangs. At the front there is a keyhole with a round hole on either side. Probably a final plate was originally attached there. At the bottom of the smooth liner is engraved Augt"5th"1820. This new Lining weighing 7 oz:17dwz: for an Old Tea Chest, of unknown Assay is allowed to be added to the same without Solder.
