Lace wedding dress, anonymous, c. 1889 - c. 1892 Canvas Print
Fitted towing gown from Brussels application side, with closure. The body has a high round neck, shoulder flaps and three-quarters pagodemouwen. The skirt is clocking, has a slit at the front and a round drag. The motifs are made of bobbin lace with needle lace decorative stitches - Brussels duchess - which is applicated on mechanical tulle. At the neckline it is a bow with a 'garden trophy' underneath consisting of a garden hat, shepherd's staff and rake. This 'trophy' repeats itself in the five large medallions along the lower edge of the tow and the front part. A finer tulle has been used in the medallions and the edges consist of daisy wreaths. Variants on the bow at the neckline also repeat themselves several times. Other motifs are rose garlands and there is a scattering pattern of moustries, leaves and flower twirs over the entire gown. A flower garlande forms the scalloped lower edge.
