Landscape with Jakobs ladder, Pieter van der Borcht (I), 1653 - 1654 Canvas Print
Landscape with a river. In the foreground on the left the sleeping Jacob with a stone as a pillow. He dreams of a ladder that reaches into heaven and of angels climbing up and down. In the clouds, a tetragram replaces the image of God the Father. God promises the land to Jacob's descendants. On the left side of the background, Jacob dedicates the stone he used as a headrest by pouring oil over it. He called the place Betel, House of God (Gen. 28:11). The print is part of an album.
