The lighthouse of the city of Alexandria. As far as we know, the first lighthouse ever built. This was commissioned by the first Hellenistic king of Egypt Ptolemy II. The tower was opened between 297 and 283 BC. Chr. built and served for almost 1500 years for successively the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs. He was standing on the island of Pharos in the Mediterranean Sea, just outside the port of Alexandria, Egypt.
