Mechanical log consisting of a fence log in a cabinet and two log fins, one of which must be attached to the gate log with a log line on the reverse; the second log fin serves as a reserve. The log fins are cylindrical floats with three screw-shaped wings, which drive the fence log in the direction of the clock. The round gate log has three enamel dials, for 1 mile (divided into sixteenths), 10 miles and 100 miles.
