Luxembourg Knighthood (Order of the Oak Crown), received by Willem Drees, anonymous, after 1841 - before 1951 Canvas Print

Box covered in green leather with the decorations of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Oak Crown (Ordre de la Couronne de Chene), Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, granted to Prime Minister W. Drees. The decorations consist of an order sign with shoulder strap and an order star. The order sign is a white pemailled teutonic Maltese Cross in gold, with a raised medallion in the heart in which a crowned W in Gothic script (after William II, King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg, who founded the order in 1841) on a green background with diamond shape and inside a golden frame. The order sign is worn on a shoulder strap that is bremgeel with direct green stripes, colors that stand for the green oak forests and the flowering broom bushes in Luxembourg; the part on which the order sign hangs forms a rosette. The order star, who is worn on the clothing, is an eight-pointed, slightly curved inwardly slightly curved silver star with in the middle the medallion with the initial of William II, which is encircled here with the inscription 'Je Maintiendrai' in gold letters on a red background. This is surrounded on the rays of the star by a green-golden oak wreath that ends at the bottom in a bow. The elongated box is lined with white silk on the inside; the cross and the star lie on a soft yellow velvet elevation, under which the strap is laid.
