Man protected by the shield of the faith, Dirck Volckertsz. Coornhert, 1557- 1561 Canvas Print

Satan casts fiery arrows at the kneeling man from a great globe. He wears a crown of peacock feathers as a symbol of pride and sits on a carpet on which the seven deadly sins are applied. In front of the globe sits the kneeling man, who looks up, where in the clouds the tetragram, symbol of God, appears. He is protected from the devil's arrows by a large shield, which holds the personification of the Faith with her right hand over his head. In her other hand the Holy Scriptures and a Cross. The print is part of a diptych with allegories on the faith and has a Latin and French caption.
