Mannen nagajuban met duivels en een knots, anonymous, c. 1900 - c. 1920 Canvas Print
Onderkimono (nagajuban) for a man with a decoration all over the plane of devils, a club inserted into the hip belt and two interlocking quadrangle (manryoku). A reference to the proverb 'oni ni kanebo' (literally 'an iron club to a devil'), to make someone who is already strong even stronger; become invincible. Also the manryoku (lett. 'ten thousandfold force') motif fits in with this. Brown silk with stenciled yuzen decoration. Lining of cream silk.
