Model of a Chain Stopper, anonymous, c. 1833 Canvas Print
Model of a chain stopper between two decks, identical to NG-MC-619-1. Consisting of a slide for the chain on a bobbin and continuously through the port vault hole, and a heavy devil's claw hanging from a bobbin on the ship's wall. A bracket over the chain secures the claw; the bracket is secured with a gaff, which is lashed to the deck beam by a hoist. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
