Model of a Life Buoy, anonymous, 1870 - 1885 Canvas Print
Wooden model of a lifebuoy, painted light red, and two full-size details, a nap (NG-MC-1389-1) and a lead weight (NG-MC-1389-2). The buoy is a semicircular band, very thick. On the top and bottom are two curved sliders, which make the band complete into a full circle. On the outside of the strap are four hubs with handles, which are secured with a bayonet closure. One of these hubs has been added in full size. It has a handle and a hollow domed part with a hole on the flat side, which is sealed with leather inside. The cylinder-shaped lead weight has a hole through and through with a screw clamp for cables or the like.
