Model of a Lifting Screw, Royal Factory P. van Vlissingen & Dudok van Heel, 1853 Canvas Print
Model of a screw sleeve between stern and rudder rods, with part of the keel. The screw light unit consists of a loose metal frame with a regular two-bladed screw, which can be hoisted up and down in the sleeve on a rope, which runs over a disc at the top of the screw sleeve and a disc in the screw window. To do this, the propeller shaft must first be withdrawn. The screw window moves over vertical rails against the stern and screw stems, which are equipped with teeth; this traps the piles of the screw window that prevent the slide back. The poles can be held back by pulling on two ropes, so that the screw window can sink. Clamping rods against screw and stern can block the movement of the screw window. The aim that prevents the screw from turning when hoisting is missing. Scale 1:10 (derived).
