Model of a Made Mast, anonymous, c. 1850 Canvas Print
Model of a faired mast. Round mast with octagonal top, ears, longitudinal and calving, riding bed, row bowl and side shells. The mast itself consists of an octagonal mast king surrounded by eight cheeks, with neuten connected to sliding; the masthead consists of the king alone. The front cheek is slightly longer than the other. The parts are held together by tub tires. A number of short planks around the mast form a flat riding bed from the front and half an octagon behind it. The side shells are extended and widened and form the ears; a row scale is fitted for against the mast. The ears have cleats that support the longitudinal and calving.
