Model of a Rudder for Paddle Steamers, anonymous, c. 1840 - c. 1842 Canvas Print
Model of a rudder and stern. The rudder has a round rudder king (Soetermeers version; see NG-MC-219, NG-MC-220 and NG-MC-221) and is a bit shorter than the stern. The head does not have a hole for a stirring pin, but a short pin protrudes through it. Three wooden stirrings and a wooden care strap with two eyes. The rudder blade has suckle cleats on the back and bottom. At the bottom of the rudder is a swiveling lip, which turns into an opening in the stern and hinders the rise of the rudder.
