Model of an Optical Telegraph, anonymous, c. 1800 - c. 1807 Canvas Print
Model of an optical telegraph, on a ground shelf. The device consists of two propped-up poles with a control mechanism below and moving arms at the top. The main arm rotates around a shaft between the poles and has two blades at the ends, which rotate independently. The control mechanism moves completely analogous to the arms, the movement of which is transferred with chains to the axes of the moving parts.
