Model of the Mortar Bed of a Bomb Sloop, Rijkswerf Rotterdam, c. 1842 - c. 1847 Canvas Print
Model of the cross-section of a ship, on which twice the construction of the support of a mortar rack is indicated, on stand on the ground shelf. On one side the construction is completely elaborated and can be completely taken apart, on the other it is only partially represented. The ship has two decks; under each mortar rack there are five cat tracks in the hold, ranging from one side to the other under the cover beams of the lower deck. Between decks, two walls of stacked beams are arranged longitudinally, connected by dovetails, which support the upper deck. The elaborated part is also completely filled with beams and struts, creating two cabinets in the hold, the whole finished with a large number of added metals and artificial knees. This part is also detailed with the mortar on her affuit à pivot. Parts of the deck must be removed for the pivot to rotate. The mortar is 6.8 cm long and has a 15 mm caliber. The other, unseen part, is equipped with the hood with which the guns are covered. Between the two mortar racks is a hatch with grids. The model has four gun ports on each side. Scale 1:20 (according to Obreen).
