Naval battle between State and Spanish ships in the English Channel off the English coast near Dover, 12-13 June 1605. On the left the English coast with Dover and in the distance London, on the right the French coast with Calais and in the distance Vlissingen. The State fleet under Lieutenant-Admiral Willem de Zoete, lord of Haultain, intercepts a Spanish troop transport to Flanders in English and German ships, brings some of these ships to sank and pursues others as far as English territorial waters, within reach of the guns in the English castle at Dover.
