This museum for today's 18th- and 19th-century art was founded in 1853 by Louis I, who, as in the opposite Alte Pinakothek, wanted to show his art collection to the public domain. Completely destroyed and demolished in WWII. Between 1975-1981 the Neue Pinakothek was rebuilt to the design of Alexander Freiherr von Branca.
