Ornamental sloop of linen with a front of needle lace with the coat of arms of Belgium, anonymous, c. 1914 - c. 1918 Canvas Print
Demolition of natural linen with a front of parts made in needle lace and parts made in bobbin lace. Within a reticella frame (needle side) of squares with rosettes and semi-ovoid scallops with half rosettes along the outside, in a rectangular midfield (needle side) stands the crowned weapon of Belgium and the text "l'union fait la force" - unity makes strength - the national motto. On the coat of arms a climbing lion and two looking away lions as shield bearers. In a jewel above and below the midfield is connected and repeating the year 1914 embroidered on a lattice ground (bobbin side). The same lattice soil is reflected in two panels next to the midfield, with openwork drop-shaped fields (mixed side: bobbin edge with some needle edgeier soils). The demolition was donated by Belgian refugees to the doctor G.H. de Jong and his wife, who were both active for the auxiliary committee in Amsterdam.
